From financial strategies to meaningful purchases, these women reveal the best investments they've ever made.
When thinking about investments, stocks often come to mind. However, they encompass much more than just funneling a percentage of your paycheck into your 401(k) each month.
According to Merriam Webster, an investment is defined as “an act of devoting time, effort, or energy to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result.” Essentially, you can channel your resources into anything and anticipate some return. This can range from teaching your kids to manage their chores to engaging in day trading.
Investing is a common interest among women in our community. I reached out to ask: What’s the best investment you’ve ever made?
Alexandra S. expresses her appreciation for investing in her “peace of mind” by purchasing kitchen gadgets like an Instant Pot, a KitchenAid mixer, and a Roomba, all of which she cherishes.
As winter approaches, Emma K. feels grateful for her decision to splurge on a durable, warm winter coat. “It’s lessened my commuting hassle,” she shares.
Emily A. feels good about her choice to send her daughter to a private Catholic high school. “Her high school experience instilled confidence, determination, and skills that helped her overcome challenges,” she explains, noting that her daughter is now on track for law school with minimal debt.
Nancy A. also values her investment in her education.
Andrea R. appreciates funding 529 accounts aggressively once her children were born and providing them with a “college budget.”
She also feels positive about her decision to reinvest dividends from stocks in companies like JNJ and DIS years earlier.
Both Lisa K. and Elise S. are pleased with their commitment to fully funding their 401(k)s, which has Elise looking forward to an early retirement.
Elaine D. and Nancy A. took wise advice to hold steady with their investments. They’re delighted that they resisted the urge to touch their funds during market downturns. Elaine D. recalls opening a Roth IRA around 2008, and although it was tough then, she’s now reaping the benefits of that investment.
Renee W. highlights a more emotional investment, describing her partner as “life changing.” They’re on the same wavelength.
I, too, have investments I stand by. Beyond opening a Roth IRA right after my first job, my Dyson tower fan ranks high on the list. Despite its higher price, it cuts down my electricity bill since I often opt for the fan over the AC on warm nights. Plus, my YETI water bottle is my constant companion, and the blue light treatment on my Warby Parker glasses keeps headaches at bay during this screen-heavy year.
Other investments celebrated by the women include a Berkey water filter, a Vitamix blender, an air fryer toaster oven, and switching from a Windows laptop to a MacBook.
