Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat globally, sparked my eight-month adventure. It's officially ticked off my bucket list!

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
I embarked on a three-day jeep adventure from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Uyuni, Bolivia, with some fantastic friends I met along the way. Rising at 4 a.m., we raced to the flats to catch the sunrise. The moment the jeep hit the salt flats was surreal—an endless expanse of white met the pastel sky. It felt like a dream come true.

Who would have thought an island of cacti would appear in the middle of the salt expanse?

Along the way to the salt flats, we encountered various lagoons filled with flamingos. I quickly developed a fondness for these birds, snapping countless photos of them, which made editing a long process. Who knew they thrived in cooler climates?

This little fellow would fit right in at my family's farm in South Carolina.
These aren't llamas but their close cousins—the vicuña.
