Before using the Fotile ChefCubii, I wasn't familiar with the brand, which is primarily recognized for its hood ranges. I was curious about its performance.

Having tested many top-performing toaster ovens, I expected a wide range of cooking options. The ChefCubii features just four functions, but that doesn’t detract from its value for two main reasons. Firstly, it includes a steaming option, a rarity in countertop ovens. Steaming is one of the healthiest cooking methods, requiring only water and no oil, while preserving food's nutrients and flavors.

Moreover, when paired with the other three functions—bake, air fry, and dehydrate—the ChefCubii can effectively execute 10 distinct functions: convection oven, steam oven, steam-bake mode, air fry, dehydrate, grill, reheat, toast, proof, and rice cooker.

What I appreciated most was the presence of 40 preset recipes, making operation straightforward. I simply turned the dial to choose the number corresponding to my meal.

Initial Setup

I’ve owned the ChefCubii since October 2021, and while I don’t have the original packaging, it arrived in excellent condition, with all accessories well-protected. These include an oven mitt, grill rack, baking tray, steam tray, manual, and humidity chip for dehydration.

Fotile ChefCubii Countertop Oven review

This oven features a sleek, modern design with a stainless steel interior and aluminum knobs. The exterior is white with a black glass front. Despite the tight seal of the door, I found it hard to open. I had to hold the top of the oven with one hand and pull the door open with the other, which was frustrating. This was unusual compared to other ovens I’ve used, prompting me to confirm there wasn’t a defect.

After reaching out, I learned that the rubber suction feet at the bottom help stabilize the unit, which can make the door harder to open. Additionally, the oven includes a damping mechanism for a secure closure. I was advised to use oven mitts when opening the door and to grip the sides rather than the top to avoid burns.

This was my only significant issue with the oven, causing me to rate it slightly lower than a perfect score.

Cooking Capabilities

The 1550W ChefCubii has a temperature range from 86°F to 446°F. I particularly enjoyed the steam function, supported by a sizable portable water tank that fits conveniently in the bottom. The tank features a rubber lid to prevent spills, and a flashing “water” indicator alerts you when it needs refilling.

Additionally, the oven has a large viewing window, an easy-to-read LCD display, and two front knobs for simple operation. The left dial turns the oven on and selects functions, while the right adjusts time and temperature. A “light” icon activates the interior light.

All 40 presets are printed on the interior door

My favorite feature, alongside steaming, is the 40 presets that simplify cooking. A list of numbered recipes is visible inside the oven. For instance, to bake cookies, I select “presets,” choose number 16, and hit start. To steam rice, I simply choose preset number 08.

Other presets include options for scallops, buns, chicken, and various vegetables, as well as combinations for roasting and baking. I appreciate not having to set time or temperature, although adjustments are possible if needed.

Testing Pork Chops

My initial test involved cooking pork chops. After seasoning them, I used the preset “P21 Roast Pork Chops,” and the countdown began.

Using the presets eliminated the need for preheating; I simply selected the preset, placed the pork chops inside, and let the oven do its job. It beeps to signal the end of preheating and again when the pork chops are ready. They cooked evenly, emerging juicy and tender.

Baking Cookies

I enjoy fresh cookies but usually only bake them while testing ovens. I made Nestle chocolate chip cookies to evaluate the baking function. Selecting preset P16 Cookies, I placed the dough in the oven. The timer rang when they were ready, and they baked evenly with a perfect brown color—crispy outside, soft inside.

Steaming Shrimp and Scampi

Over two days, I experimented with the steam function, starting with steaming shrimp. I placed the shrimp in a bowl, selected preset 05 Steam Shrimp, and within minutes, they were tender and juicy.

The next day, I used the steam function to create shrimp scampi with leftover pasta. I chose the shrimp preset and monitored it closely. No adjustments were needed, and the dish turned out delicious.

Cleaning the Fotile ChefCubii

The oven is straightforward to maintain. I used a damp sponge with soap to clean the exterior and control panel, while the racks were washed in soapy water. The interior is cleaned using the steam clean mode for 10 minutes, followed by a 20-minute dry-up mode.

After 50 hours of steam usage, a descale icon appears, indicating it's time to descale by filling the water tray with vinegar and water and running the function for 30 minutes. A buzzer sounds when the process is complete.

Comparison with Other Ovens

I’ve evaluated numerous countertop ovens, including brands like June and Breville. The Fotile ChefCubii’s steam feature is a significant advantage for anyone who values steaming as a cooking method. The Tovala Gen 2 Smart Oven is the only other model I’ve encountered with this function, though it’s smaller and more budget-friendly.

The 40 presets also differentiate this oven from competitors. While the June Oven offers more advanced features with a camera and step-by-step guidance, it comes at a much higher price.

Quality-wise, the Fotile ChefCubii competes well against high-end countertop ovens, excelling in various cooking methods. My only concern remains the difficulty with the door.

Should You Consider the Fotile ChefCubii Countertop Oven?

If you enjoy steamed dishes, the Fotile ChefCubii should be on your radar. While I have a preference for stainless steel appliances, its modern white design offers a refreshing alternative for those looking for something different. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this countertop oven is versatile, easy to use, and simple to clean.
