While spring is typically linked to blooming flowers and light pastels, a fresh design trend is reshaping how we embrace the season in our homes.

Meet Cabincore, a captivating interior design movement that romanticizes life in a cabin through rich textiles, layered lighting, and deep-hued accents, bringing Alpine charm into any setting.

This decorating style began on social media but is rapidly gaining traction among designers, many of whom are experimenting with it in their personal spaces. Here's how you can master the Cabincore look, with insights from the experts.

Understanding Cabincore

Emerging from TikTok, Cabincore is often seen as the darker counterpart to Cottagecore. Unlike Cottagecore's emphasis on gingham patterns and rustic touches, Cabincore celebrates mountainous retreats with faded color palettes (think olive greens, terracotta, and rust tones), intricate embroidery, and abundant wood accents.

'As someone from Canada, I have a deep appreciation for the Cabincore aesthetic, especially when it's given a refined twist,' shares Jeffrey Wilkes, founder of DESIGNWILKES. He recently completed two cabin projects on Mayne Island, located off the Vancouver coast, designed as a getaway for himself and his partner.

'In our interiors, we focused on creating a snug, cabin-like atmosphere, utilizing wood paneling for the floors, walls, and ceilings,' Jeffrey elaborates. 'We featured exposed ceiling beams and a wood stove in the living room, which are crucial in enhancing both the coziness and sophistication of the space.' The end result (shown above) perfectly captures the essence of Cabincore while avoiding any gimmicky elements.

'Incorporating materials like velvet and leather for upholstery, along with thoughtfully selected colors throughout, can also help you achieve the Cabincore vibe,' Jeffrey suggests.

Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet, the designers behind the stunning Swiss chalet pictured above, note that you can create an elegant Cabincore aesthetic by steering clear of clichés.

'Wood provides warmth and texture, but we mixed it with luxurious metals to create a striking contrast,' they explain. 'The result is a blend of materials that honors the building's identity, maintaining traditional architectural elements while embracing a modern design approach.'
