Leanne Morgan always believed she was meant to make people laugh. Now at 57, she stands as one of America’s favorite comedians.
Recently, more women are redefining their careers after fifty, proving that societal norms about age and success are outdated.
Leanne's journey into comedy began in her late 50s. While raising three kids, she discovered her talent for humor while selling jewelry, often veering into tales about motherhood and daily life. “I was meant to discuss jewelry, but ended up sharing stories about breastfeeding and cooking, and women found it hilarious,” Morgan reflects. “It turned into a fun experience while I also crafted my routine.”
Though she had to wait until her children were older to perform live, she didn't let that stop her. Morgan would take to the stage for late-night sets after tucking her kids in, waking up early the next day to keep the routine going. Now, her Netflix special, “Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman,” ranks among the top comedy specials, with audiences eager for more.
Her storytelling prowess stems from her close-knit Southern family. “Growing up, I was surrounded by wonderful Southern grandmothers and aunts who loved to talk. I enjoy observing people and noting the quirks that make them unique, like their socks,” she shares.
Want to impress at your next gathering with a great story? Morgan suggests taking your time, paying attention to the people around you, and focusing on the amusing little details that catch your eye. When you share these insights with others, it creates a sense of connection, making them laugh along with you.
