In Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle, he beautifully illustrates the Catskill Mountains as 'rising majestically and overseeing the surrounding lands.' This breathtaking landscape has long attracted visitors, including the owners of this timber-clad haven nestled in the heart of the Catskills.
The home's captivating interior bursts with vibrant colors and intricate patterns, thanks to the creative vision of a talented interior designer.
Currently residing in New York, the designer grew up in the UK and attended school alongside the founder of a popular home decor brand.

She notes, 'When I was transitioning into interior design, I received tremendous support from my friend, who asked me to design her home. It was thrilling to collaborate in such a unique way.'
Her friend had a clear vision for the home's design.
'We aimed for an interior that felt deeply personal, incorporating references from Austrian and Swiss chalets, classic English country homes, and relaxed American mountain styles,' she explains.

Bunk Bedroom: This room features rich dark greens, complemented by a traditional red patchwork quilt. Custom wallpaper and bedding from a popular brand. Cushion in a fabric from a renowned textile house. The vintage quilt adds uniqueness, and the deer illustrations are reproductions from a classic book.
She skillfully incorporated local design elements, Americana, and folk art, influenced by her British upbringing.

Media Room: Deep colors create a cozy atmosphere. Vintage snowshoes and a framed antique quilt accent the walls. Ottoman upholstered in a premium linen, with contrasting corduroy and custom piping. Walls painted in a serene shade.
The project required balancing her friend's maximalist style, which embraced bold patterns and colors, with her husband's preference for minimalist, contemporary designs.
'Navigating their contrasting tastes resulted in a successful project, where we could juxtapose Bauhaus-style lighting with beautiful antique rugs and luxurious fabrics,' she shares.
'This balance prevents the space from feeling overly traditional or contemporary. It achieves a cohesive yet vibrant atmosphere.'

Living Room: 'The wallpaper evokes nostalgia while remaining playful and bright,' explains the designer. Featuring picnic wallpaper from a notable brand. Custom cotton velvet sofa in a striking blue hue, accented by a vintage rug and sheepskin chairs.
The living room showcases a delightful mix of elements from various eras, with American ski-house-style shearling chairs alongside a traditional English roll-arm sofa upholstered in vibrant blue velvet.
'The velvet's color is truly captivating,' she remarks.

Dining Area: With its light and airy feel, the designer embraced Scandinavian influences, incorporating vintage Danish chairs. An antique rug adds lovely balance. Tablecloth and ceramic bowls from a local shop. Chairs dressed in a classic striped fabric.
In the powder room, plaid wallpaper wraps the walls.
'This beautiful tartan was adapted to match the plum hues of the primary bedroom, enhancing the green tones to connect with the adjacent mudroom. Every detail was thoughtfully planned.'

Every detail in this project was meticulously chosen. Her experience at auction houses has provided her with valuable knowledge of decorative objects.
Furniture pieces were sourced from Croatia, while side tables were discovered in an Edinburgh antique shop, and blankets came from the Cotswolds, with art gathered from estate sales in upstate New York.

Girl's Bedroom: 'The wallpaper evokes an alpine essence, perfectly fitting the theme,' she says. The artwork features a reproduction of a classic bird's nest. Floral wallpaper from a notable designer. Vintage quilt and bedding from a popular brand.
'This design approach helps create a layered, textured interior,' she adds.
'Integrating Americana and Shaker styles is crucial in celebrating place, while also honoring British designers.'
