Designing compact areas can be tricky. Unlike larger rooms that offer more layout possibilities, small spaces often feel limiting in terms of decor.

However, the walls in small rooms offer a unique opportunity to inject character, turning a basic area into one that captivates.

This concept comes from talented designer Ines Kelly Mazzotta, who shared insights in a recent video on social media about enhancing small areas with wall decor, embodying a sense of quiet luxury.

Ines emphasizes, 'Compact spaces can exude sophistication and elegance, even without grand architecture. It's crucial to make the most of available elements to achieve refinement. The walls are a key asset.'

Here are Ines' top three home decor ideas for rejuvenating small areas.

1. Incorporate Decorative Wall Moldings

Ines suggests using decorative wall moldings to enhance a compact area. 'They add subtle elegance and visual texture to a room,' she notes.

When selecting wall moldings for smaller spaces, opt for designs that are vertically oriented. 'This draws the eye upward, creating the illusion of higher ceilings, which helps the room feel larger,' Ines advises.

2. Create Impact with Wallpaper

Another way to elevate a small room is by applying wallpaper ideas or wall murals. Ines suggests using a bold mural to infuse drama and interest into a minimalist area.

If you prefer a subtler approach, consider tonal patterns or grasscloth. 'These options add visual depth without overwhelming the space,' Ines explains.

3. Utilize Bookshelves or Built-In Shelving

Ines' final suggestion for enhancing a compact area involves adding bookshelves or built-in shelving, as shown above. This technique plays on vertical space, making the room appear more spacious.

Ines explains, 'Anything that draws the eye upward creates a perception of height, which translates to a larger feeling space. Bookcases and built-ins accomplish this beautifully.'
