When fall rolls around, many think of traditional colors like burnt orange and forest green. However, this season offers a broader palette that goes beyond the usual shades.

A fall color palette is inviting, echoing the vibrant tones of the season that surround us. While classic colors will still be present, innovative trends are making their mark in interior design this autumn.

These designer-endorsed shades not only feel cozy but also bring a refreshing twist to traditional colors for 2025.

1. Earthy Green

Using earthy tones is an excellent method to prepare your home for fall. Shades like moss and olive green offer a seasonal touch while being far more exciting than typical forest green.

Channing Krichevsky, a Principal Designer, remarks, 'Earthy greens are in vogue this autumn. We’re seeing everything from olive to what our client calls “glow from within green.”'

When discussing ideal color pairings, Channing notes, 'Pair it with grounded tones, as illustrated in this living room. Whites, beiges, blacks, and golds complement earthy greens beautifully. Incorporating floral patterns and natural materials like marble adds texture.'

It's not just olive green that's trending; dill green is gaining popularity for its organic yet vibrant appeal, maintaining an authentic feel.

2. Deep Mauve

Mauve has long been a beloved fall hue, but designer JoAnna Baum suggests a richer, deeper version will dominate home decor this season.

While purple can be tricky, deep mauve offers a timeless alternative to burgundy. JoAnna shares, 'I propose deepest mauve as fall's standout color. Purple and red have been sidelined for too long, but they're ready for a stylish comeback.'

She continues, 'Imagine a purple that leans toward eggplant, paired with rust and mustard. It’s an exciting mix of timelessness and freshness. Look at fashion; these colors are re-emerging, and interiors should follow suit. Deepest mauve is autumn's lasting color.'

To incorporate this hue, consider Farrow & Ball's Brinjal. It’s a luxurious choice for library walls or kitchen cabinetry. Additionally, purple accents can create a sophisticated atmosphere without needing a complete paint overhaul.

3. Marigold

This fall, marigold is emerging as a vibrant alternative to butter yellow. With its sunny disposition and subtle orange undertones, it refreshes the typical mustard palette often seen in autumn decor.

Interior designer Nina Long highlights her favorites for the season, including sunny marigold, which serves as an excellent substitute for burnt orange. 'This palette is my favorite! Warm colors like browns, marigolds, plums, ochres, deep greens, and rich blues are everywhere!' she exclaims.

If marigold walls seem too bold, Nina suggests using fabrics on chairs, benches, or cushions to introduce this hue without overwhelming your space.

4. Rust

This year, orange has transformed into a softer rust shade that breaks away from traditional fall colors. It’s a muted, earthy tone that is both uplifting and warm.

Rust, sitting between terracotta and warm orange, provides a smooth transition from summer to fall, making styling effortless.

Interior designer Gray Walker advises, 'Expect rich, earthy shades like rust, ochre, and deep red this season. The trick is to balance vibrant tones with neutrals and natural textures for a harmonious look.'
