A home rich in character often showcases vintage treasures, celebrating second-hand finds in furniture, decor, and textiles. Lately, I've been captivated by the resurgence of heritage patterns, which are now adorning everything from walls to furniture and flooring.
Incorporating patterns into your decor is an exceptional way to add visual intrigue, enhancing a room's overall appeal with movement, color, and most importantly, character. Nostalgic prints bring a timeless vibe, and in recent years, more of us are gravitating towards classic patterns for our interiors.
'Vintage prints are not just making a comeback; they're here to stay,' shares Chloe Vince, Senior Decorating Consultant at House of Hackney. 'Vintage decor, like vintage-style wallpaper, instantly injects character into a space, softening the modern lines of architecture while adding warmth and visual texture. These prints evoke nostalgia and a sense of escapism, qualities many seek to create in their interiors.'
Vintage Prints to Watch in 2025
I reached out to top printmakers and designers to discover the styles that are trending this year. From playful animal motifs to delicate floral patterns, the variety of re-emerging prints suggests there's something for everyone.
1. Bold Chintzy Florals

While floral designs typically resurface each spring, it's the country-inspired flower patterns that are gaining traction among interior designers for floral room decor ideas.
Large floral motifs are commonly seen in country curtain ideas or country wallpaper ideas. These enduring designs evoke nostalgic feelings and reflect the beauty of springtime landscapes. Shauna Dennison-Taylor, Creative Director at Penny Morrison, notes, 'Rather than being viewed as outdated, vintage or antique prints are becoming increasingly sought after as they resonate with the current trends of nostalgia and authenticity.'
Shauna continues, 'What were once called 'chintzy florals' are now reimagined on rustic fabrics, giving them a relaxed, modern twist. Smaller patterns are being integrated into layered designs – think cottage-core, reminiscent of grandmother's cozy living room. Gathered skirts are now adorning slipper chairs and replacing kitchen cupboard doors, echoing the flouncy pelmets of the late 1970s and early 1980s.'
These lovely vintage florals aren't limited to traditional settings; they can also enhance minimalist bedrooms, adding warmth and contrast to neutral tones.
2. Animal Prints

For fans of mid-century modern, rejoice! It's not only country fabrics that are trending among design experts. While many associate floral designs with decorating with vintage fabrics, animal prints are making a stylish comeback that's here to stay.
Decorating with animal prints might seem daunting, but they offer various forms and serve as a great neutral backdrop in your home. If you're trying animal prints for the first time, consider starting with a smaller scale in a subtle color, such as a light brown zebra or a delicate leopard pattern.
Chloe shares, 'We draw much design inspiration from Madeleine Castaing, a significant figure in 20th-century decorating with a French, mid-century flair. Her use of animal prints as neutrals when constructing schemes is a concept worth adopting. You can use our Wild Card wallpaper in your home to introduce a touch of understated glamour – the versatile colors will enhance various interior styles and act as a solid foundation for those aiming for a transitional design.'

3. Ditsy Florals

If you've ever decorated with antique textiles, you're likely familiar with ditsy floral prints. These small, intricate designs embody a classic farmhouse aesthetic, evoking a cozy atmosphere as soon as you step into a room.
Although ditsy florals tend to be popular this time of year, the rise of eclectic decor has led to an increase in nostalgic patterns. Watts 1874 has recently introduced a collection inspired by heritage fabrics once displayed in a Yorkshire castle.
The Watts 1874 team notes, 'Color and pattern, paired with a strong sense of tradition and an unending curiosity for the new, serve as emotional decorating tools.'
They continue, 'Consider decorating your walls with delicate floral wallpaper or integrating such motifs into bed linens or an artfully placed rug. When combined with solid-hued fabrics and the natural textures of wood, linen, or stone, the outcome is one of serene harmony, reminiscent of an English garden in spring.'
4. Food-Inspired Patterns

While florals are a staple design, food-themed patterns are a fresh favorite that strays from the norm, featuring tomatoes, strawberries, and even radishes on walls and furnishings.
Schumacher has recently celebrated garden produce with whimsical designs like the My Little Radish and Green Grocer prints, inspired by 1950s designs. These charming prints are perfect for a breakfast nook or sunroom, blending nostalgia with a sense of fun.

5. Checkerboard Patterns

Checks have been in vogue for a while, but designers are now opting for more playful designs that celebrate the past, prominently featuring this vintage pattern in their work.
Proving that checks are here to stay, the innovative printmakers at ROMO Fabrics state, 'Known for their versatility, timeless appeal, and ongoing trendiness, chequered prints are a straightforward way to incorporate sophisticated style into any interior. We're observing a rising appreciation for bold and contemporary checks, especially modern takes on classic checkerboard designs. Whether presented as a rustic fabric or embellished with charming details that offer a modern twist, a checkerboard pattern is a fantastic choice.'
While using checks might seem daring, this print can fit into all types of decor. For a minimalist living area, consider a neutral checkered rug to balance subtle hues. If your style leans towards maximalism, experiment with mixing various patterns by pairing checks with other vintage prints.
I'm excited to see these vintage prints flourish this year. Their charm makes them a delightful addition to any decor style. If you're inspired to incorporate prints into your design, consider embracing pattern-on-pattern styling for an eclectic and vibrant look.
