Looking for the best way to clean your Cuisinart coffee maker? You've come to the right place.
I chatted with Julie Shyti, a Product Manager at Cuisinart, to gather insights on keeping her coffee maker spotless and fully functional. While there's plenty of general advice available for cleaning coffee makers, Cuisinart offers unique tips that only their team can provide.
As a former barista and coffee expert, I've cleaned over fifty different coffee makers. Based on my experience, I'm sharing my best cleaning practices along with home remedies so you won't have to rely on expensive cleaning products.
Cleaning Your Cuisinart Coffee Maker
Quick Clean After Brewing

After each use, a quick clean is essential. This prevents coffee grounds and build-up from affecting the flavor of your brew. With proper deep cleaning and regular descaling, this process should be quick.
Start by disposing of used coffee grounds. These can be composted or used in your garden (check out our advice on using coffee grounds in gardening).
Wipe away any coffee splatters on the exterior with a soft, damp microfiber cloth (found at Walmart).
Wash the filter and glass carafe in warm, soapy water. Use a gentle, eco-friendly detergent like Method (available at Target) or Ecover dish soap (also at Walmart). Use detergent sparingly to avoid leaving streaks.
After cleaning, dry the carafe and filter thoroughly with a lint-free microfiber cloth before returning them to the machine.
Deep Cleaning Your Cuisinart Coffee Maker

Deep cleaning isn't necessary too often. Cuisinart machines have built-in alerts for when it's time to clean. Typically, this coincides with the clean light turning on, indicating the need for descaling.
If you're unfamiliar with descaling, here's what Julie Shyti, Product Manager at Cuisinart, has to say: 'Descaling is crucial as it eliminates calcium build-up in your coffee maker.' Ignoring this alert can affect your coffee's flavor and the machine's performance.

To descale, you can use home remedies or purchase a descaling solution from Amazon.
Julie suggests filling the water reservoir with a 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water mix. There's no set schedule for descaling since it depends on your water hardness and usage frequency. Monthly works for some, while every three months is a good rule for most.
Julie also mentions that Cuisinart coffee makers come with charcoal water filters that enhance water quality during brewing. These filters help eliminate chlorine and unpleasant tastes, resulting in more consistent coffee.
To initiate the cleaning function, press and hold the clean button until it flashes. Run the machine until the reservoir is empty. It will beep and the lights will turn off when the cycle is complete.
Since vinegar has a strong smell, make sure to run fresh water through the machine multiple times afterwards to avoid aftertastes.
Common Questions

Filtered water in coffee has been debated among experts for years. Some argue that it improves flavor due to minerals, while others say it can lead to inconsistencies. If your water is hard, using filtered water simplifies descaling, making it less frequent.
Consider making descaling a regular part of your routine every three months. This keeps your coffee maker operating efficiently.
If you notice stubborn scale, experts recommend using Lime A-Way (available at Walmart) for tough spots.
Running the Clean Cycle
To run the clean cycle, refill the reservoir with your cleaning solution, press and hold the clean button, and let the coffee maker do its job.
Home Remedy for Cleaning
A simple mixture of white vinegar and water in a 2:1 ratio is effective for cleaning. For the exterior, Karina Toner from Spekless Cleaning suggests using a water and baking soda blend. Just be sure to test it on a small area first to avoid damage.
